Description

A model General Assembly bill drafted by the Defenders of Segregation for a new state law stipulating that "white and colored children shall not be taught together in the public schools of Virginia” and that “no state funds shall be expended in any county or city of the Commonwealth in the operation or support of any public schools wherein white and colored children are taught together.” The model bill included the statement that "teaching the children of the white and negro race together in the public schools of Virginia will stimulate racial strife and in tranquility and militate against the peace and good order of the Commonwealth”
