[Letter] 1960, June 3 [to] Congressman Watkins Moorman Abbitt

Title

[Letter] 1960, June 3 [to] Congressman Watkins Moorman Abbitt

Description

In this letter sent by frequent correspondent Landon Lane, Lane reacted to decolonization in Africa and Congolese independence by connecting events abroad to domestic Civil Rights attitudes. Lane suggested that conservative whites "band together for united and determined resistance to such trends" either peacefully or with force if deemed necessary. Abbitt responded by thanking Lane and commented, "I doubt if the ministers and do-gooders realise where they are taking this country."
