Remarks of Hon. W.M. Abbitt in the House of Representatives

Title

Remarks of Hon. W.M. Abbitt in the House of Representatives

Description

A speech by Abbitt on the floor of the House of Representatives give in reaction to the Supreme Court's ruling in Griffin v. County School Board of Prince Edward County, 377 U.S. 218. In this case, the Court ruled that the decision of the School Board of Prince Edward County, to close all public schools and provide vouchers to attend private schools violated the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Abbittt decried the Court's “brazen power” and “disregarded all judicial restraint.” Included with the remarks is a draft of a bill “to provide that district court of the united states shall not have jurisdiction of any civil action to compel a State or any taxing authority under the jurisdiction of an State to impose of collect any tax.”
